Oasis Youth Services provide safe and secure accommodation and professional support for young people who are homeless, by establishing rapport and providing individual, flexible support through a person centred framework .

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Youth Worker to provide life skills training programs and work with the team to ensure the achievement of case plans and to also enable young people to achieve independence as far as possible in areas of their life.  

Reporting to the Team Leader and Regional Manager, this is a permanent, part-time(18 hours per week) position on a 4 week roster with a combination of active and passive hours. This position is based in Chisholm, ACT. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 3.

You will successfully

  • Provide safe and secure accommodation and professional support for young people who are homeless by establishing rapport with young people and providing individual, flexible support through a person centred framework.
  • Ensure the young people are not subjected to any form of abuse.
  • Build rapport and engage with young people through appropriate activities and strategies, in order to identify and respond to their immediate needs.
  • Conduct contextual centre-based and living skills/training programs and assist in ensuring relevance to the needs of the young people is maintained.
  • Acquire, develop and maintain a good working knowledge of accommodation and support options.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with external agencies.
  • Work effectively within a team that fosters and empowers continuous improvement.
  • Meet Work Health and Safety obligations.

You will have

  • ACT Working with Vulnerable People Certification.
  • Current ACT Driver License.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certification.
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV level) in Youth Work, Social Work or related field.
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn database programs.
  • Experience in youth work or within a Specialist Homelessness Service.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging young people of varying cultural, racial, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
  • An understanding, empathy, appreciation and the ability to promote the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
