Trainee Surveyor – Western Region



Centennial is a wholly owned subsidiary of Asia’s largest independent Energy Group, Banpu Public Company Limited.



We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work at our underground coal mines in the Lithgow region whilst studying towards a Bachelor of Spatial Science – Technology.



This traineeship combines academic learning with practical hands-on experience and provides the support and mentoring of other surveying professionals, offering you a strategic advantage when approaching registration. 



At the mine site, you will assist the Mine Surveyors to maintain mine plans using AutoCAD software and be part of the production process by performing underground survey tasks. In addition, you will have on and off-site training that will build on and expand your survey skills.



You will be a proud advocate for safety. Some experience in underground mine surveying would be advantageous but if you are currently performing a survey role, enrolled, or undertaking studies in surveying you are encouraged to apply.

Career Scope


  • Survey is a diverse career, with base skills that are learnt on site widely accepted to civil, construction, agricultural and cadastral applications. We use many forms of equipment of total stations, scanners, digital levels and GPS as well as different types of computer aided drafting and GIS applications. This means that once you have finished your degree you will already have 5-6 years of highly beneficial industry experience.

What you will need to succeed in this traineeship 


  • UAC/QTAC sufficient to enrol in University or pathways to University with the Tertiary Preparation Program.
  • Proactive and self-motivated attitude.
  • Demonstrated numerical accuracy and analytical skills.
  • Proficient computer literacy skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly effective planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
