Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Director Hydrogeology to join our team. The ideal candidate will be based in Western Australia. They will bring specialist technical direction, advice, and capability in hydrogeology, with a strong focus on numerical groundwater modelling. You will lead and coordinate groundwater modelling projects and opportunities across WA and APAC. Your role will be pivotal in developing our project pipeline through business development, client relationships, and winning work strategies, while ensuring quality delivery and mentoring team members to build technical capability.

Youll be part of our Hydrogeology team, working alongside a diverse group of hydrogeologists, engineers and geoscientists. Our team provides specialist technical advice and delivers services across groundwater resource management, impact assessment, environmental protection, infrastructure development, energy and resources. Youll also collaborate with our global hydrogeology network, contributing to projects across Australia, Asia Pacific and beyond.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Leading groundwater impact assessments and integrated modelling of surface and groundwater systems, including solute transport modelling.
• Providing technical direction and management for high-quality modelling project outcomes, collaborating with national and international multidisciplinary teams.
• Preparing, developing, and reviewing proposals and bids for projects, and delivering technical reporting and data analytics.
• Engaging with clients throughout pursuit, tendering, and delivery phases, ensuring project outcomes and client satisfaction.
• Mentoring and training junior modellers, sharing knowledge, and building team capability across GHDs Groundwater Modelling Team.

What would you bring to the team?

• A Bachelors degree or higher in hydrogeology, with at least 15 years of professional technical experience, including 10 years focused on numerical groundwater modelling.
• Demonstrated expertise in industry-recognized modelling techniques, numerical model development, and the use of advanced modelling software and programming tools (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW, PEST utilities, Python, Fortran).
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to explain complex modelling processes to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage and lead complex projects, work independently as a technical lead, and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams.
• A personal drive for excellence, commitment to mentoring others, and a flexible, proactive approach to challenges and deadlines.
