As a Staff Specialist , you’re employed under our Enterprise Agreement which can be viewed here ENTERPRISE AGREEMENTS and we can also offer you:

  • Generous leave provisions, including up to 4 weeks training/education leave and up to 5 weeks annual leave per annum (Pro Rata Part Time)
  • Medical Education expenses allowance reimbursement up to $21,037 (Pro Rata Part Time)
  • Attraction and Retention Incentive – $50,000 to $75,000pa (Pro Rata for part time) – reviewed every 2 years – Note: ARIn amount is based on the starting base salary which will be negotiated within this classification for the successful candidate, depending on experience and expertise.
  • Reimbursement of relocation expenses for interstate candidates on permanent and long term appointments (Conditions apply and subject to review and approval)

About the Role:

Older Person Mental Health Services are specialist inpatient and community based mental health assessment and treatment services for adults in the ACT experiencing moderate to severe functional impairment due to serious mental illness/disorder with associated complex needs and risk. MHJHADS aims to be socially inclusive and operate within a recovery-focused and/or harm minimization approach.

The successful applicant will have specialist experience in General Psychiatry and a Certificate of Advanced Training in Psychiatry of Old Age, and high-level skills relevant to both inpatient and community services, including the provision of ECT services. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in the mandatory administrative, governance and training requirements of medical officers within the Division. Emphasis on recovery focus and person-centred care are essential.

Strong research links are maintained with the ANU, University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University. All specialties are represented with the exception of organ transplantation. The hospital has well developed post graduate teaching programs. A fully equipped medical library is available on site with a large collection of hard copy and on line journals and textbooks.

The preferred candidate maybe considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidates qualifications and experience.  The academic position will be held for the duration of the Canberra Health Services employment and will be subject to regular performance reviews.  No remuneration is attached to the University position. The employee will be responsible to the University on academic matters and to The Canberra Hospital & Health Services / Canberra Health Services for clinical/ research matters.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

  • Hold Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Meet credentialing requirements and receive an Endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC)
  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act is required.

The ACT Government will be building a new northside hospital on the existing hospital campus in Bruce to meet the growing health care needs of our community, with construction to commence mid-decade providing more beds, increased services, and increased career opportunities.
