About the Role

As a Solicitor at the TAC, youll play a pivotal role in shaping the future for Victorians affected by transport accidents. You will manage a diverse range of legal matters, from intricate litigation to high-impact dispute resolution, all while ensuring that the Transport Accident Act operates effectively and fairly.

In this role, youll navigate complex legal scenarios, handling matters such as no-fault disputes, serious injury claims, common law actions, and prosecutions. Representing the TAC across VCAT, County Court, and the Supreme Court, youll lead negotiations and manage cases with a strategic mindset, often resolving disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to achieve the best outcomes for all involved parties.

Your work will involve close collaboration with a variety of stakeholders plaintiff solicitors, medical experts, legal professionals and court personnel. Youll be a key advocate for the TACs mission, using your legal expertise to guide clients effectively through the complexities of the system, offering solutions to protect their interests and support positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Portfolio Management: Oversee and manage a range of legal matters, providing clear and timely advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Represent TAC in litigation, including VCAT, County, and Supreme Court matters, and use alternative dispute resolution techniques to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with plaintiff solicitors, medical professionals, and court personnel to support successful case outcomes.
  • Strategic Problem-Solving: Apply your legal expertise to interpret complex legislation and provide strategic solutions that align with TACs mission and objectives.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to improving internal processes and driving efficiencies that enhance the overall service delivery.

About You

Were looking for a qualified solicitor with the following:

  • Current practicing certificate and admission as an Australian Lawyer.
  • Knowledge of the Transport Accident Act, relevant legislation, and legal precedents is highly desirable.
  • Experience in litigation across multiple jurisdictions (including VCAT, County, and Supreme Courts), with a proven track record in dispute resolution.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, time management skills, and the capacity to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and development.
