The Pest Animal Coordinator is a vital role within the WLLS Invasive Species and Biosecurity operations, supporting our landholders and communities to manage and control pest animals effectively. This specialised position focuses on coordinating and managing pest animal projects in line with the Regional Strategic Pest Animal Management Plan (RSPAMP) and ensuring the successful delivery of high-profile, State-funded programs, such as the Feral Pig and Pest Program (FPPP).
Primary Purpose of the Role:
As the Pest Animal Coordinator, you will oversee the strategic management of pest animal control projects across the region, ensuring that all pest management services are delivered effectively to landholders in compliance with the Biosecurity Act. This role is essential for coordinating our biosecurity team and driving the delivery of key pest animal programs that are outlined in our strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Lead, manage, and coordinate pest animal control projects, ensuring successful delivery of the regions strategic pest animal control services.
- Coordination & Collaboration: Oversee and coordinate biosecurity staff across the Western region to deliver pest animal management programs and projects.
- Leadership: Chair the Regional Pest Animal Committee (RPAC) and promote the Regional Strategic Pest Animal Management Plan (RSPAMP) to landholders and stakeholders.
- Program Delivery: Manage and implement key State-funded projects, including the Feral Pig and Pest Program (FPPP), ensuring that resources are used efficiently and program objectives are met.
- Compliance: Support landholders in meeting their obligations under the Biosecurity Act, providing advice, assistance, and resources as needed.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with landholders, stakeholders, and industry groups to deliver high-quality pest animal control services and ensure effective collaboration across the region.
Key Challenges:
- Balancing competing priorities across a range of projects while managing the expectations of stakeholders and adhering to strict deadlines.
- Coordinating a diverse team of biosecurity staff and ensuring that all activities are in line with the overall strategic plan for pest animal control.
- Addressing the complexities of pest animal control and promoting compliance with biosecurity regulations in a regionally diverse and dynamic environment.
Essential Requirements:
- Strong background in Agricultural, Environmental, or Natural Resource Management, with a focus on pest animal management and biosecurity.
- Proven project management experience and the ability to coordinate diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, including the Biosecurity Act, and manage pest animal control initiatives across different terrains and conditions.
- Current NSW Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel across the region.
- Ability to undergo a police check and medical clearance.
