job purpose 

signalling superintendent is responsible for the operations of the signalling maintenance team consisting of direct reports in signalling the discipline of work group leaders, signal electricians, signal mechanics, mechanical trainees and apprentices across five uglrl depots.  

staff conduct maintenance inspections and repairs as per the technical maintenance plan, identify and repair signalling faults and attend failures to diagnose and correct signalling electrical faults. 

the superintendent is to ensure effective planning of the maintenance plan and management of non-conformities. the superintendent is to ensure these teams are equipped in all aspects to achieve 100% compliance. 

key responsibilities

   oversee the overall on-site operations of the routine signalling maintenance delivery schedule with all stakeholder expectations met.
   monitor and manage compliance of the signalling team in regard to the signal tmp.
   actively assist in the development of signal rm reporting of non-conformance, budgets and failure data into hexgn and further development of technologies. 
   ensuring team rostering in line with uglrl fatigue management policy. 
   ensure team is equipped to maintain infrastructure in line with tmp. 
   ensure essential spares a kept and maintained at appropriate levels. 
   ability to travel regularly across the network and teams 
   provide and take leadership responsibility in health, safety and environment management.
   assist in the development and delivery of the signalling 3mwp.  
   build strong internal and external stakeholder management through positive, proactive, and professional communication to keep key people informed.
   manage administrative duties for direct report requirements.
   administer team training and skill requirements via training and direct mentoring or staff to ensure minimum and appropriate skill bases exist within the team. 
   mentoring of staff and apprentices and establishing succession plans 
   participate in sign off procedures for the delivery of works in relation to the 3mwp.
   management and authorization of external plant hire and sub-contractors

qualifications

   certificate iv rail signalling electrical or certificate iii rail signalling mechanical
   certificate of competency signal electrical or signal mechanical
   prior experience managing teams and resources. 
   ability to travel across the network at short notice 
   rail signal engineer qualifications
   graduate diploma rail signalling engineering or equivalent
   diploma of electrical engineering
   minimum 10 years previous signalling routine maintenance experience in a
leadership role of similar scale.
