Located 38 kilometres south of Mackay, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd operates with a name plate capacity of 85 million tonnes per annum exporting coal from Central Queensland to ports around the world. This wouldnt be possible without great people – people just like you.
This is a unique opportunity for two experienced logistics and maritime professionals to lead a team of highly experienced Shipping Officers whilst safely managing the wharf interface on behalf of the terminal. The Shipping Superintendent is responsible for managing third party contractors, work front interfaces at the wharf, safe and effective vessel mooring practices as well as compliance with all regulatory and legislative frameworks.
Reporting to the Manager Logistics, and working a roster, the roles work across the business to safely coordinate the berthing, loading and sailing of vessels. The development and maintenance of effective communication networks with both internal and external stakeholders is required to ensure effective utilisation of the terminal.
This role has many facets and responsibilities, such as:
- Team management and leadership
- Visual safety leadership and risk management
- Contractor management of third-party providers (Towage Operators, Shipping Agents, Providores, Draft Surveyors)
- Coordination of stringent vessel vetting processes
- Coordination of commercial shipping documentation to meet legal and regulatory requirements
- Participation in industry forums to further promote and enhance safe shipping operations within Australia
Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal is a busy, open water terminal that requires a Shipping Superintendent ideally with:
- People management and leadership experience
- Tertiary qualifications in a maritime discipline
- Certification in bulk materials handling
- Experience in a maritime industry
- Highly developed written, verbal and negotiation skills
- Experience in the application of safety management in an industrial environment
- An ability to work in a dynamic environment.
- High attention to detail, ability to multi-task and problem solve
- An ability to be proactive, identifying improvements and leading change management processes
