About the role
We are delighted to announce that we are searching for a knowledgeable and experienced SHES Specialist to join our dedicated and professional Africa SHES team.
As a SHES Specialist you will actively drive, and provide expertise to, the execution of continuous improvements in occupation health, safety, environmental and sustainable matters. Your main focus will be on our manufacturing sites within Africa Region.
This incredible opportunity will see you support our business in implementing and embedding SHES processes and programs in our daily operations. We expect you to monitor legal and regulatory requirements, trends and events and develop responses as required. We welcome candidates based in Accra, Ghana to apply as this role is remote and will involve travel to our sites/ operations to support and drive the SHES portfolio.
What you will be doing
- Ensure all actions and behaviors are consistent with Oricas Charter Values, Purpose, and Strategy;
- Create, own, and execute regional department-specific Improvement Plans with the support of Group and Site SHES Advisors and Operational Leaders;
- Offer Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to SHES Advisors and Operational Leaders, aiding in the effective implementation of SHES initiatives;
- Oversee and participate in investigations and action plans, ensuring progress is tracked and deadlines are met;
- Develop pathways and implementation plans for Orica Group Standards and Procedures, collaborating with SHES Advisors and Operational Leaders for effective rollout;
- Recognize areas for improvement and develop plans to enable structured and consistent regional implementation and continuous improvement;
- Keep track of regional internal and external requirements, trends, and events, and develop appropriate responses within the area of discipline.
What you will bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Safety, Engineering, or related fields, along with a NEBOSH International General Certificate or higher;
- At least 7 years of experience in SHES or related fields within the mining, oil & gas, or FMCG industries, with managerial or people management experience being an added advantage;
- Deep understanding and appreciation of the unique history, culture, communities, and business environment in Ghana and other parts of Africa;
- Willingness and ability to travel significantly, both domestically and internationally, to be visible and engaged at sites within the Africa region;
- Proficiency in Process Safety Management (PSM), permit to work issuance and approval, management of change, major hazards and key controls management, incident reporting and investigation, and internal audit and self-assessment (ISO , & );
- Demonstrate courage, resilience, flexibility, strong stakeholder management, interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to challenge others constructively to resolve issues and conflicts;
- Experience in project management or operational roles, regulatory compliance, development and management of security policies, contractor management, and emergency and crisis management.
