We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Operational Specialist – HVDC to join us in our Operations & Maintenance team in George Town on a Permanent full-time basis.
The APA Basslink operations team are dynamic, highly skilled and committed to their work.
Reporting to the Team Leader HVDC you will play a key role in the ongoing safe and reliable operation of Australia’s largest HVDC interconnector.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure Operations and Maintenance activities are performed in line with the APA Asset Management Plans
- Undertake management of Easements as per the Operations Environmental Management Plan.
- Undertake maintenance activities in line with CMMS.
- Perform High Voltage Operating activities on APA assets.
- Investigate and report operational faults and events to determine and document the root causes of faults and then implement remedial actions.
- Coordinate work activities and resourcing to ensure effective management of Operations and Maintenance tasks.
- Undertake “on-call” duties for up to 18 weeks a year.
- Raise Management of Change when Operations and Maintenance improvements are identified.
Your background
Essential:
- Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Electrical Trade Qualification
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience within either Electrical Heavy Industry, Power Transmission or Power Generation
Desirable:
- Electrical Trade Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in electrical or control systems High Voltage Operating Experience
Mandatory:
- Detailed knowledge of High Voltage, PLC and SCADA systems
- Ability to undertake root cause analysis and repair asset related faults.
- Effective time management, planning and prioritisation skills.
- Strong Communications skills, capable of developing and maintaining working relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborative Team participation with demonstrated ability to contribute to the total effectiveness of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain productivity and effectiveness in a challenging environment.
- Requires hands-on application of engineering principles to solve real-world problems, involving direct interaction with equipment, machinery, or systems.

The Basslink operations team is a small group within APA, maintaining assets in Loy Yang, Victoria and George Town, Tasmania. The team is dedicated to delivering a reliable service for our customer.
