Safety and Training Officer

The Opportunity

With a strong pipeline of recently awarded work across South East Queensland, this specialist water infrastructure contractor is expanding its Queensland operations team.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Health and Safety Advisor to support multiple concurrent water infrastructure projects, ensuring safe, compliant and high-quality delivery across all field operations. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be out on the tools with the crews, delivering training, coaching behaviours and driving safety outcomes from the ground up across sites stretching from the Gold Coast through Brisbane and as far west as Toowoomba.

This is not a desk-based role. You will be the visible face of safety across the business, spending the majority of your time in the field engaging directly with site crews, supervisors and subcontractors. A key focus will be taking full ownership of the training register, maintaining a comprehensive register of certifications and licences across all personnel, keeping policies and procedures current, and ensuring the business stays ahead of its legislative obligations. If you thrive in fast-paced environments where initiative, organisation and genuine people skills are critical, this is a role where you can make a real difference.

Ideally you will be based on the southside of Brisbane, given the geographic spread of project sites across SE Queensland.

About the Organisation

This contractor specialises in remediation work across water reservoirs, concrete and steel structures, and complex infrastructure involving a variety of materials and asset types. With a long history delivering structural remediation, maintenance and capital works across potable and wastewater networks, the business is well-established within the utilities sector. Supported by strong client relationships and a growing pipeline of newly awarded projects, they offer long-term stability, a hands-on team culture and meaningful opportunities for development across their expanding Queensland operations.

  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety audits and field assessments across multiple concurrent sites
  • Assess personnel to identify HSE knowledge gaps and implement targeted training programs
  • Support the rollout of a modularised training program to upskill and enhance HSE capability across the business
  • Support high-risk activities including confined space entry and working at heights
  • Maintain safety documentation and reporting systems including SiteDocs, SharePoint and the MS Office Suite
  • Facilitate incident investigations and close out corrective actions
  • Coach, mentor and influence positive safety behaviours on site

  • Experience within high-risk construction, utilities or infrastructure environments
  • Solid understanding of Queensland WHS legislation, codes of practice and the ability to interpret and communicate legislative updates across the business
  • Demonstrated experience building, owning and maintaining training registers and certification and licence registers across a field-based workforce
  • Ability to take ownership of HSE system development, including building out and improving the existing policy and procedure framework
