Safe House Coordinator/Social Worker

About the Role 

Are you a passionate and experienced Safe House Coordinator ready to make a meaningful impact? Step into a pivotal role where you’ll support wāhine and tamariki who have experienced or witnessed whānau violence. You’ll lead the daily operations of a safe and welcoming environment, ensuring culturally grounded, trauma-informed care for those seeking refuge and a pathway to safety and healing. 

You will: 

  • Provide advocacy, support, and safety planning for wāhine and their whānau.
  • Coordinate referrals and access to essential services including legal, health, housing, and financial support.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and ensure all documentation aligns with organisational policies.
  • Conduct regular house inspections and uphold health and safety standards.
  • Participate in crisis line support on a rotating after-hours roster (included in salary).
  • Uphold tikanga Māori and support the holistic wellbeing of tangata whaiora.

  

About You 

You’ll be a confident, compassionate, and organised professional who thrives in a kaupapa Māori environment.  

You’ll bring: 

  • Studying towards a Social Work degree or similar
  • Proven experience in social services, advocacy, or safe house coordination.
  • A strong understanding of the impacts of whānau violence and trauma-informed practice.
  • Knowledge of Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga, or a genuine willingness to learn.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team.
  • A full, clean driver’s licence.
