The team

At the heart of the New South Wales (NSW) planning system, the Planning Group takes centre stage. Driven by the NSW Governments unwavering commitment to tackle the critical housing issue, we provide essential support and strategic guidance.

The Planning Land Use Strategy, Housing and Infrastructure (PLUSHI) team are the driving force behind the Department’s strategic planning, policy, rezoning, and infrastructure projects, all aimed at making New South Wales a better place to live.

We take pride in our comprehensive approach to planning and development with our teams actively managing the housing and employment land supply pipeline through strategic planning, policy development, , state-led statutory rezonings, and infrastructure planning.

PLUSHIs work includes significant projects like housing policy reform, regional strategic plans, economic and social policy development,  State Significant Rezoning Policy (SSRP), Transport Oriented Development (TOD) and the Urban Development Program (UDP), which help monitor and coordinate housing development, land supply, and infrastructure delivery.

From crafting long-term regional strategic plans to speeding up rezoning processes, we work tirelessly to support sustainable growth across NSW whilst enhancing accessibility and quality of life.

The role

As a Planning Officer in one of our PLUSHI teams, your role will involve supporting PLUSHIs work including:

  • Strategic planning in our cities and regions
  • Housing, social and economic policy
  • State and local led rezonings
  • Infrastructure planning
  • Evidence and insights

 This includes supporting the fair and efficient evaluation of these projects and contributing to the improvement of processes to meet government goals.

Your key responsibilities include conducting research, offering practical advice, and preparing reports to aid decision-making. Additionally, your ability to interpret and simplify technical information will be crucial as you liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders and prepare easy-to-understand plain English reports, guidelines, and communications on policies and initiatives to ensure consistent application and understanding.

What you will bring to the role

What is an essential requirement:

  • Tertiary degree qualification or other equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant planning and environmental legislation and processes
  • Willingness to travel and Class C Drivers Licence for regional positions
