We currently have an opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to work across two of our sites,  Bethanie Peel Aged Care Home, located in Mandurah and Bert England Lodge, located in Rockingham. Bethanie Peel is a warm and welcoming 50 bed facility set amongst landscaped gardens, with a personalised memory support area, and Bert England Lodge is a 44 bed facility offering care for people with diverse needs including dementia, palliative care, and high care requirements.

In this role, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of customer centred therapy and lifestyle programs, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to improve the quality of life of our residents.

This role is offered on a fixed term part time basis, covering two parental leave absences. The successful applicant will work:

  • at Bert England Lodge 12 hours per week for eight months
  • at Bethanie Peel 13 hours per week for twelve months

To clarify, this role will be combined 25 hours per week until 31 August , after which it will continue as 13 hours per week until 23 February with the potential for extension. The roster is negotiable with the successful applicant and can be discussed further at interview.

We would also happily accept applications for either position if preferred.

Our Therapy Team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, a Senior Dietitian and a Senior Speech Pathologist. The Therapy Team is further supported by a full time Allied Health Manager. In addition, this role will be directly supported by a Senior Therapy Team Lead with over a decade of experience as an Occupational Therapist in aged care.

About You

  • Current full, unrestricted registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Occupational Therapist
  • Relevant experience in an aged care environment or supporting people living with dementia is an advantage, but is not essential
  • Be relatable and able to share knowledge in a way that supports change at all levels
  • High level of negotiation, communication and relationship building skills
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Able to manage a complex workload and adapt to fast changing priorities and environments
  • Is customer focussed and works effectively with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrates effective communication, strong verbal and written skills, and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to uphold the Mission, Vision and Values of The Bethanie Group
  • Willingness to obtain relevant vaccinations
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to apply for one)

About the Role:

  • Complete therapy assessments and respond to clinical referrals
  • Plan and implement individual or group therapeutic activities, whilst working with an interdisciplinary team to maintain an effective referral system and coordinate therapy implementation
  • Direct and coordinate Therapy Assistants
  • Maintain appropriate clinical documentation and information systems
  • Contribute to a multidisciplinary program of continuous improvement
  • Incorporate aged care quality standards into all services
  • Synthesise information, through observation and written documentation, to provide recommendations that are relationship centred and informed by evidence based best practice
  • Undertake a range of assessments that help to understand the holistic experience of the person
