Our Groundwater Modelling team is currently seeking to appoint 2 full time (Groundwater) Modellers who will report to the Lead Groundwater Modeller and plan and undertake hydrologic and hydraulic analysis using statistical and model simulation techniques, for the purpose of informing water management policy and planning in NSW.

About You

Our (Groundwater) Modellers will assist in the investigation and analysis in the area of groundwater and surface water hydrology and hydraulics to provide data to inform water management decisions. They will be required to analyse and interpret results from the hydrologic and/or hydraulic models to provide reliable and accurate information on which policy can be developed.

You will be a member of various projects and teams, assisting in the delivery of projects for water management planning and policy. You will do this by keeping up to date and informed about water resource management agenda of the NSW Government and how it affects your area of expertise.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following hydrologic disciplines: mathematical groundwater hydrology and hydraulics, groundwater modelling with surface water interaction, water resources management modelling, catchment process modelling, statistics, computer programming, application of spatial modelling
  • Awareness of the strengths and limitations of relevant analytical techniques, such as models and data
  • Experience in assessing the suitability of hydrologic and hydraulic model outputs for natural resource management requirements
  • Experience in developing conceptual models of groundwater flow systems, supporting development of groundwater models, performing quantitative hydrogeology and analysing aquifer pumping tests
  • Experience with optimization software such as PEST Experience using Python
  • Knowledge of the NSW Government’s natural resource management agenda.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree level qualifications in Hydrogeology, Geology or Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Strong vocation and dedication to the career path of groundwater modelling
  • Solid understanding of hydrogeological principles and practices
  • Solid understanding of groundwater/surface water interaction, unsaturated zone and recharge processes
  • Experience developing MODFLOW or FEFLOW based groundwater models, exposure to other codes also considered
