Mental Health Nurse

An exciting opportunity for a specialised Mental Health Nurse has become available to join our YHAC Clinic/Programs team!

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have experience in mental health nursing and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by the Aboriginal community. You will play a crucial role in delivering culturally appropriate mental health care, support, and advocacy.

Working Arrangements:

  • Full Time Permanent Position
  • 6-month Probationary Period
  • Day Shifts Monday-Friday
  • Hourly rate between $42 – $54

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in mental health nursing or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities or a strong commitment to learning about and respecting Aboriginal culture.
  • Previous Care Planning/ Health Assessment experience.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Sound computer skills for electronic medical record documentation.
  • Current Driver’s License and willingness to travel within the community.
  • Current National Police Check, Working With Children Check, and DHS Aged Care Screening.
  • Current First Aid and Mental Health First Aid Certification.
  • Evidence of Covid-19 1st, 2nd & Booster Vaccinations encouraged but not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessments and interventions.
  • Develop and implement individualised care plans in conjunction with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Offer therapeutic support and counselling to individuals and families.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, community organisations, and family members to ensure holistic, culturally appropriate care.
  • Promote mental health awareness and education within the community.
  • Support patients in navigating the healthcare system and accessing necessary services.
  • Participate in community outreach programs and events.
  • Provide support and leadership to clinic and program staff.
  • Administering medications and injections as prescribed by physicians, as well as completing Venipuncture.
  • Ensuring compliance with clinic policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
  • Monitoring of patient clinical outcomes.
