The Company
Our client is a well-established Australian energy infrastructure operator delivering a major Future Fuels project at one of their key Brisbane assets. The facility is moving out of construction and into the pointy end of delivery, with Ready for Start-Up locked in for mid-September and a full commissioning campaign running through Q4.
It is a genuinely significant program, with the owner’s team taking an active oversight and assurance role across the EPC contractor’s mechanical scope. The team is small, cohesive and professional, with a culture that takes the work seriously without taking itself too seriously.
Your Role
The Mechanical Completions Supervisor provides front-line leadership on site, coordinating mechanical construction verification and pre-commissioning activities to make sure systems and subsystems are delivered safely, to specification, and on schedule. This is a client-side oversight role rather than a hands-on supervisor position. The EPC contractor is taking the work through to Mechanical Completion, and you will be the owner’s eyes and ears across that scope, holding the line on quality, completeness and verification, then helping carry systems through MC and into the commissioning team for RFSU.
Day to day, you will:
- Supervise mechanical construction activities across assigned systems and areas to achieve Mechanical Completion milestones
- Make sure mechanical works are executed in line with approved drawings, specifications, procedures and project standards
- Coordinate with engineering, QA/QC, completions and commissioning teams to resolve site issues and minimise constraints
- Attend mechanical walkdowns, inspections and verification activities, identifying and closing out punch items
- Ensure mechanical ITRs, test records, redlines and dossiers are completed progressively and to the required quality standard
- Monitor contractor performance, productivity, workmanship and compliance with scope and schedule commitments
- Provide accurate status updates and recovery actions through coordination and progress meetings
- Promote a strong safety culture across all mechanical works, in line with HSE requirements and permit systems
Your Background and Experience
The client is open on qualifications, with a mechanical trade or a university qualification both equally welcome. What matters far more is the right kind of project experience and the right approach.
You will likely bring:
- A strong technical mechanical foundation, gained either through trade or engineering
- Solid project experience in downstream hydrocarbons, oil and gas, mining, or comparable heavy industrial environments
- Hands-on experience with completions management systems such as CCMS, covering subsystem definition, certification, data validation and system turnover
- Proven capability across the full mechanical punch list lifecycle, from walkdowns through to clearance and verification
- A track record of coordinating across engineering, construction, QA/QC and commissioning teams to resolve technical and execution constraints
- Comfort operating across complex stakeholder environments, working through and with others rather than doing it yourself
- The headspace to operate in a client-side oversight role, which for some candidates from EPC backgrounds is a genuine shift worth being upfront about
Client-side or owner’s team experience is a plus, as is exposure to both brownfield and greenfield project execution.
Benefits to You
- The role is Brisbane based, working a 10 hour day from 6am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
- You will be joining an owner’s team that is described as tight, professional and well-functioning, with good humour and genuine give and take.
- The project itself is at the most interesting phase of its life, where good completions discipline directly determines how the plant comes online, and where the experience you build will travel well into future commissioning and start-up work across the sector.
