Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited (KPHL) is Papua New Guinea’s National Petroleum and Energy Company, mandated to maximise long-term value from the State’s petroleum and energy interests for the benefit of the people of Papua New Guinea.
KPHL is seeking an accomplished Managing Director to lead the organisation through its next phase of strategy, governance and commercial maturity.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director will provide enterprise-wide leadership across strategy, operations, governance and stakeholder engagement, while driving performance, accountability and organisational capability.
The Role
As Managing Director, you will:
- Execute Board-approved strategy, corporate plans and budgets, driving long-term value creation and financial sustainability
- Lead and chair the Executive Committee, ensuring strong coordination and performance across all divisions
- Oversee KPHL’s asset portfolio, joint ventures and major projects with a clear focus on commercial discipline and outcomes
- Support the Board with accurate, timely advice, reporting and decision support, while upholding the highest standards of governance and integrity
- Strengthen enterprise risk management, compliance and organisational controls
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with government, joint venture partners, regulators, financiers, communities and landowners
- Lead organisational and cultural change as KPHL continues to evolve as a well-governed, commercially focused National Oil Company
About You
You are a proven senior executive with the judgement, credibility and resilience to operate effectively in a complex, stakeholder-rich and highly visible environment.
You bring strong commercial acumen, sound governance instincts, and the ability to lead large organisations through change while developing capable leadership teams.
Qualifications & Credentials
- A tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Management, Economics, Engineering, Law or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications (e.g. MBA) are well regarded
- 15–20 years’ senior executive leadership experience within large, complex organisations in energy, resources, infrastructure or similarly capital-intensive sectors
- Significant exposure to oil and gas, energy or related industries, including major projects, operations, commercial and financial management
- A demonstrated track record in strategy development and execution, capital investment decision-making and major project oversight
- Strong experience managing joint ventures, partnerships and complex stakeholder relationships, including Boards and government
- Experience operating in regulated or government-owned enterprise environments
- International experience, particularly in developing or emerging economies (including Papua New Guinea or similar jurisdictions), will be well regarded
Location
This role is based full-time in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and will involve regular domestic and international travel.
