Are you passionate about shaping the future of building construction and maintenance in Queensland through expert contract development?
Do you have the enthusiasm and dedication to improve government procurement strategies and contract management through effective contractual instruments?
If so, we invite you to join our dynamic team as the Manager, Contract Development.
About the Role
In this pivotal role, you will support the Director of Contract Development in leading the creation and maintenance of standard building construction and maintenance contracts for the Queensland Government. Your contributions will ensure these contracts are effective, legally compliant, and aligned with policy objectives. You will also provide specialist advice on contract use and interpretation, influencing the Contract Management and Procurement streams of Contract Services.
As a key player in our highly technical Contract Services team, you will be committed to the effectiveness of standard contracts. Open to challenges and diverse perspectives, you will tackle contract development with a strategic mindset. Over years of development, these contracts have evolved into robust tools backed by extensive expertise. Additionally, you will manage and curate a vast knowledge database that underpins all building construction activities in Queensland. By incorporating stakeholder feedback and lessons learned, you will maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the standard building construction and maintenance contracts, supporting the successful delivery of government projects across the state.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Director of Contract Development to draft and maintain standard contracts and develop project-specific contractual instruments.
• Draft conditions of tender, conditions of contract, and associated guidance materials to ensure best practice solutions for Queensland’s building projects.
• Provide timely, sound advice on contract-related matters, including interpretation and departures from standard contracts.
• Undertake research to integrate policy, legislative, and common law changes effectively.
• Manage legal engagements, maintain knowledge databases and legal cost records, and synthesise data from tendered departures and feedback to inform contract updates.
• Support the development and implementation of procedures for contract development activities and assist the Chief Contracts Officer and other directors in fulfilling Contract Services’ responsibilities.
About You
We are seeking a professional with a passion for learning and a drive to contribute to the betterment of Contract Services. Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with care and precision are essential. You should have strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities effectively. Proficiency in synthesising large quantities of information, interpreting it concisely and efficiently, and providing sound, well-reasoned advice on contract-related matters is crucial.
A sound working knowledge of legal and contractual principles is vital, along with experience in drafting contractual documents. The ability to work autonomously in a rapidly changing environment and collaborate effectively within a small, high-performing team is essential.
Mandatory Requirements:
While there are no mandatory requirements, a tertiary qualification in a related field such as law, architecture, construction, engineering, or quantity surveying, or
