About Role: The Lab-in-Charge at IHNA (Institute of Health and Nursing Australia) holds a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of laboratory facilities. Responsible for maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, they oversee equipment management, enforce safety protocols, and support practical training sessions. With a focus on compliance and continuous improvement, the Lab-in-Charge plays a key role in enhancing the hands-on learning experiences of students pursuing healthcare education at IHNA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a high rate of well-maintained and functional lab equipment, with an aim for excellence in equipment functionality, targeting a maintenance rate of 95% or higher.
- Ensure that at least 95% of lab sessions adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, prioritizing the well-being of students and staff.
- Ensure that the laboratory meets accreditation standards set by relevant Australian regulatory bodies. It includes compliance (NPAAC) standards.
- Achieve an inventory accuracy rate of at least 98% to prevent shortages or overstocking, ensuring efficient resource management.
- Aim for a student engagement rate of at least 90% to promote active participation and engagement in lab activities, enhancing hands-on learning experiences.
- Achieve a 95% satisfaction rate by ensuring the availability and optimal functionality of laboratory equipment for educational purposes.
- Strive for optimal lab utilization, ensuring that lab facilities are efficiently scheduled and used, with an aim for maximum resource and facility utilization, targeting a utilization rate of 95%.
- Number of successful research projects supported by the laboratory.
- Timeliness of providing necessary resources for research experiments.

The successful applicant for the role of Lab in Charge (Enrolled Nurse) will be selected based on the following criteria:
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent is often required.
Experience
- Several years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with progressive responsibilities.
- Previous managerial or supervisory experience is typically preferred
Skills and Competencies
- Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in overseeing laboratory operations.
- Familiarity with and adherence to relevant regulatory standards, such as NPAAC in Australia.
- Identifying and managing potential risks associated with laboratory operations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to adopt and integrate new technologies and methodologies into laboratory practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address challenges.
