Queensland is in an exciting time in its history and is looking towards the future. This Head of Investment (HoI) role leads the overall investment strategy, decision making and negotiations for private sector project proposals that enhance economic outcomes for Queensland. This role sits within Queensland Treasury and reports to the Deputy Under Treasurer – Industry, Investment and Commercial.
You will be responsible for driving growth in the Queensland economy through your influential leadership across Strategy and Project Management, Investment Attraction, Investment Facilitation, and Investment Partnerships. You will be the driving force in realising projects (advising the Deputy-Under Treasurer, Under Treasurer and Treasurer) and will guide the delivery of numerous high-value programs and initiatives.
As the HoI, you will hit the ground running and deliver on key pipelines of work within the next 12 months. You will also drive the state’s long-term investment strategy and foster a culture of innovation, initiative and decision-making. On any given day, you could be leading commercial negotiations to secure transformational projects in Queensland, designing new programs to propel emerging industries forward, or speaking at conferences to drive inwards investment.
To succeed in this role, you will need to have expert stakeholder management skills and the ability to navigate a complex political environment and deal with a broad range of internal and external parties. You will need high-level strategic, commercial, analytical and creative capabilities and understand the political, social, economic and commercial environment to make informed, sound judgements across multiple industries. You will have proven leadership abilities, with expertise in managing and motivating large, high-performing teams. You will lead a team of approximately 40 FTEs, including 2 Assistant Under Treasurers and an Executive Director as direct reports.
The successful candidate must demonstrate their results-focused mindset and capability to lead the successful delivery of challenging projects within a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment. Your ability to leverage your in-depth knowledge and experience of “getting deals done” across industries and projects is critical to your success. You will have significant experience at senior management level in private and/or public sector business environments and be able to demonstrate dealing with large and complex investment and commercial projects.
