Part Time Fixed Term Role. 

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Grade 3 Senior Dietitian to join the Nutrition and Speech Pathology Department in the role of Food Services Dietitian. 
This is a part time fixed term position (30.4 hours per fortnight fixed untill May )

In collaboration with the Nutrition and Speech Pathology Department and Food Services Department, this Food Services Dietitian role will ensure the nutritional and dietary needs of our patients are met. This will be achieved through providing nutritional analysis and dietetic experitse on menu reviews and process and product reviews, maintaining the critical data of the electronic menu management system (CBORD), and coordination of food service quality projects and audits. This role will contribute to the overall quality, education and research aspects of both the Nutrition and Food Services Departments, and requires excellent communication skills, a strategic approach to the provision of food services in a complex clinical environment and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams. We are seeking senior dietitians with experience and a passion for food services and candidates that understand the significant impact that an effective food service system can have on outcomes and the experience of people with cancer.

Position Summary

In collaboration with the Manager of Nutrition and Speech Pathology:
The Food Service Dietitian provides an advisory service to Food Services and is responsible for monitoring compliance with Peter Mac food and nutrition policy which has been developed in line with Victorian DH and national initiatives and standards to ensure the nutritional and dietary needs of our patients are met. 
The Food Service Dietitian will provide nutritional analysis and dietetic expertise to Food Services and on-going advice and education to Food Service staff on current and emerging trends in health food services.
The Food Service Dietitian will also contribute to the overall quality, education and research aspects of both the Nutrition and Food services departments.

Essential Requirements
  • Member of Dietitians Australia (DA) and current Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) status or a willingness to join the APD Program
  • Minimum 7 years experience including some in a major teaching hospital/acute care facility with specialist knowledge and experience in nutritional management of food services
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Proven commitment to own professional development
  • High level word processing and computer skills
  • Experience and interest in initiating quality improvement activities and service development
  • Experience in student placements/supervision
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience with CBORD food and nutrition management system
  • Experience in leading student supervision programs
  • Interest and experience in leading quality improvement activities, service development and project management
  • Possession or progression towards higher qualification in Nutrition, Management or related field
  • Experience in research

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations

Key Accountabilities

1. Regular menu review and planning
  • Advocate for optimum nutrition care of patients through effective menu planning and adequate food supply
  • Provide advice to Food Services on production recipe modification to meet the agreed Food Services nutrition specifications
  • Participate in menu evaluation including the taste testing of production recipes
  • Participate in a menu review (at a minimum of annually) in consultation with the Food Services Leadership team
  • Develop menu defaults for all diet codes and participate in the data input to the CBORD menu management system
  • Provide nutritional analysis for all recipes promoted by Food Services
  • Validate new and substitute products promoted by Food Services/HSV contract for compliance with Peter Mac nutrition policy
  • Maintain ingredient database and information on allergies
2.Teaching and education
  • Supervise and coordinate student dietitian Food Service placements
  • In consultation with the Food Services Leadership team, develop and conduct appropriate in-service training for food service personnel, including specific training on the provision of therapeutic diets, allergen management, and the preparation of supplements
3. Quality improvement activities and service development
  • Participates and contributes to the Department quality improvement program including audits and KPIs (including the lead contributor to a minimum of 2 quality process/projects per year) and develops and monitor appropriate indicators and outcome measures for the Department and contributes to the Food Services quality program as appropriate
  • Identification and resolution of nutrition related risk/issues in consultation with Manager of Department and relevant parties
  • Liaises with Manager of Department/Senior Team to identify areas of potential improvement, develop processes and protocols to measure/improve systems as agreed, promote best practice activities and implement evidence based practice
  • Contributes to the development and review of relevant policies, procedures and clinical guidelines
  • Maintains and develops relationship with relevant Food Services and Nutrition departments
  • Validate and verify data in the CBORD database
  • Consult/input to the organisations food safety requirements (including input to the Food Safety Plan) through a partnership with Food Services
  • Active contributor in food related patient satisfaction surveys
  • Leadership role in menu reviews

4 Research and projects

Participation in approved research activities and projects within the Department and organisation

  • Develop, promote and contribute to evidence/best practice activities and research that lead to improved health/nutritional outcomes for patients in consultation with Manager of Department/Senior Team
  • Contribute to raising the profile and position of the Nutrition Department as a leader in oncology nutrition
