Environment and Communities Superintendent

A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Environment & Community Superintendent to play a critical leadership role in a major gold development project in Western Australia.

This permanent position offers the chance to join a high-performing team during a pivotal phase of growth, with the successful candidate initially based in Perth before transitioning once site operations ramp up. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the implementation of the Environmental Management Strategy across multiple assets.
• Provide advise, mentor and develop a team of Environmental Advisors.
• Liaise with internal departments, contractors, traditional owners, and regulatory bodies.
• Oversee Environmental approvals, audits, and reporting.
• Drive site-based programs including rehabilitation, heritage surveys, and closure planning.
• Act as a key contact for community and stakeholder engagement, building positive long-term relationships.

What We’re Looking For:

• 10 years of experience in the mining industry with several years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of WA environmental regulations, permitting, and ISO practices.
• Experience leading environmental programs during greenfield project development.
• Ability to engage effectively with traditional owners, landholders, regulators, and community groups.
• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Position Duties:

• Implement and manage the project’s Environmental Management Strategy.
• Monitor and assess environmental impacts, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Prepare and contribute to regulatory reports (DEMIRS, DWER AERs, NVCP, MRF, NPI, NGERS, ESG).
• Lead the planning and design of environmental infrastructure such as Waste Rock Dumps, TSFs, WWTPs, landfills, and recycling stations.
• Oversee environmental approvals, mining proposals, and mine closure plans.
• Coordinate and manage heritage surveys and traditional owner engagement.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to site-based Environment Advisors and graduate team members.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with community stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
• Support land access activities and stakeholder negotiations, including with Traditional Owners and local authorities.
• Ensure site safety, environmental risk mitigation, and alignment with company standards.
