Role Purpose and Summary

The Commercial Analyst is responsible and accountable for the reporting and analysis of financial data for SCC. The position is an operational role within the accounting team, ensuring objectives and outcomes are met, as directed by the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager.

The position is accountable and responsible in ensuring compliance with SCC Policies and procedures, relevant standards, relevant legislation, and accepted industry practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 23 years of experience in a commercial analysis or business partnering role.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the improvement of business models and operational performance.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance performance and optimize processes.
  • Involvement in the application of business drivers to improve performance management, focusing on operational efficiency and organisational goals.
  • Exposure to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proven experience in commercial finance, supporting business operations, process improvements, and handling routine business requests.
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools and planning applications (e.g., Adaptive Planning).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of or experience in the Aged Care, Retirement Living, or Not-for-Profit sectors (desirable).
  • Experience with project management, financial modelling, and process improvements.
  • Advanced skills in tools like Excel, Epicor, Power BI, and SQL.
  • Solid understanding of data analytics, and financial and operational business drivers.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes the following:

Reporting and Analysis

  • Assist with the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports and management accounts, adhering to relevant standards and SCC procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to reporting deadlines.
  • Support the preparation and coordination of annual budgets for operational areas, maintaining data accuracy and version control.
  • Assist in managing finance-related data within the data warehouse and integration hubs.
  • Contribute to designing financial reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL).
  • Assist in preparing KPI performance reports, profitability analysis, and financial trend reporting.
  • Perform financial analysis of business units using established financial models.
  • Help with monthly variance analysis and cost reporting, including providing commentary.
  • Assist in financial modelling for projects, leveraging business intelligence tools.
  • Support the provision of financial data for compliance and grant reporting requirements.
  • Provide analysis and feedback to managers and stakeholders regarding financial performance, budgets, and KPI achievement.

Finance Business Partner:

Collaborate with business units by:

  • Gaining a strong understanding of operational models.
  • Analysing monthly results and assisting with budget and forecasting processes.
  • Assisting in the preparation of commercial business cases.
  • Building strong working relationships with key staff and stakeholders.
  • Acting as a contact point for finance-related inquiries and support

Teamwork and culture:

  • Provide support and advice to team members.
  • Participate actively in team meetings to ensure efficient teamwork.
  • Maintain a positive, collaborative attitude, contributing to the teams overall objectives.
  • Uphold professionalism in line with SCC values, mission, and Code of Conduct.

Stakeholder relationships:

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders through email, phone, and meetings.
  • Help in managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend relevant meetings as directed by management.

Work Health & Safety

  • Complete all mandatory training related to WHS.
  • Report incidents, accidents, or hazards within 24 hours as per SCC policy.
  • Adhere to SCC policies in areas of workplace safety and compensation.
  • Contribute to the Return-to-Work programs as required

Essential

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in commercial finance, supporting business operations, process improvements, and handling routine business requests.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools and planning applications (e.g., Adaptive Planning).
  • Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve problems efficiently.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and high-quality outputs.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • A customer service mindset.
  • Commitment to maintaining and promoting Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal History Check.

Essential:
